Pennies are Irritating
If I were a retail business owner, there would be no pennies, nickels, or dimes in my stores. I'm still trying to convince my employer to round on their 7 retail locations. I also have my anti-penny blog at http://uspennyinfo.blogspot.com/

Petition the White House
You may have heard that some time ago the Whitehouse created a website for petitions (https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions). Well, I decided to create one today. My petition needs 150 signatures before it will be publically viewable. We the People allows anyone to create and sign petitions asking the Obama Administration to take action on a range of issues. If a petition gets enough support (100,000), the Obama Administration will issue an official response. If you support my position, you can view and sign the petition here: http://wh.gov/oola Here is what the petition says... Save Money and Resources - Eliminate production and use of the Penny (1 cent) Eliminate production and use of the Penny (1 cent)... save money! According to CNNMoney.com,

It is a capitalist plot
The idea of getting rid of the penny is an idea floated by capitalists to put down the small guy. Keep the penny and mess up their plans to control us.

Actually the little guys control their destiny
The little guy controls his own destiny by how he/she spends their money. Do you really want to be behind someone in the checkout line while they are counting out their pennies?

Yeah, the big guys call all the shots
I agree that we are all pawns in the big guys plan. Getting rid of the penny is a small part.

It is a waste of time & money
We support retiring the penny completely! Our arguments are, first and foremost, it cannot buy anything, it is a waste of money, and it is a waste of time. Visit our new website www.RetireThePenny.org and learn more. We also have flyers for businesses that wish to be penny free! We are with you in the fight! -Citizens to Retire the U.S. Penny

Change the whole monetary system
Given accumulated inflation, I think we should go from cent based, 1¢ = $1/100, to disme based, 1đ = $1/10 (where the "?", "stroked d", symbol = "đ" or "đ"), get rid of the penny, nickel and quarter, create the US florin, 20¢ piece, and define and reemphasize the 50¢ piece as the US crown. So rather than the 1¢ (penny), 5¢ (nickel), 10¢ (dime), 25¢ (quarter) and 50¢ (half-dollar), there would be the 1đ (disme), 2đ (florin) and 5đ (crown).

(symbol and names just a suggestion)

Thus, prices could be defined in tenths, rather than hundreds, in most cases (financially sensitive transactions that require $.01, $.001 or even $.0001 resolution, can certainly continue to do so). I mean, really, other than pricing gimmickry ("...now only $3.99!"), how often do you see something for 57¢ or 72¢? -- it is most likely for 59¢ or 79¢, which, when it is all added up at the end of the year, could just as practically be priced at 6? (6 dismes) and 8? (8 dismes)! What do you think?"

Keep the penny
I think pennies are a valuable coin. They should continue to be used.

Totaly disagree
I know that I go out of my way to leave the pennies in a jar when I go out for the day. I never take pennies with me. I bet you don't either. There was a time we carried them around, but no longer.

Don't like pennies as change
Great to see that people out there are serious about giving up on this coin. I almost never accept pennies when offered in exchange. They are a real pain clinking around in my pocket.

To many prices to the penny out there
I know that one of the main reasons people are against getting rid of the penny is because gas stations, penny stock and the U.S.Postal Serve are amoung those who adjust their prices a penny at a time. We really have two separate issues here, getting rid of the penny and keeping the options for businesses to adjust prices by the penny. Well, from my point of view, keep on adjusting prices by the penny, just round off the final, total charge after tax to a nickel.

Way past time
I think it is way past due to quit using this coin and save a bundle of money in manufacturing costs. Sign my US Government Petition at https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/discontinue-penny
